Storyline: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story serves as a direct prequel to A New Hope. Initially, the plot follows the Empire seizing scientist Galen Erso to complete the Death Star.

Years later, the Rebel Alliance locates his daughter, Jyn. Therefore, they recruit her to find Galen. Subsequently, she teams with Cassian Andor, a Rebel officer. On Jedha, they indeed discover Galen's secret message; specifically, he implanted a fatal flaw within the battle station.

However, the Empire immediately demonstrates the Death Star's power by destroying a city. Despite this, the Rebel Council refuses to act. As a result, Jyn leads a rogue mission to the Imperial base on Scarif.

A massive battle then erupts. First, Jyn and Cassian retrieve the data files. Meanwhile, Rebel ships engage the Imperial fleet overhead. After a fierce struggle, the team successfully transmits the plans. Nevertheless, the Death Star arrives and tragically annihilates the entire team.

Finally, the film connects directly to A New Hope by showing Princess Leia's ship receiving the very plans, which she famously calls "Hope."
