Storyline: Iron Man 3 begins after the epic Battle of New York. Tony Stark is having a very hard time. He cannot sleep and feels constant anxiety. He spends all his time in his workshop, building many new Iron Man suits. Meanwhile, a dangerous terrorist called the Mandarin appears on television. He is causing explosions across the country.

Suddenly, the Mandarin attacks Tony directly. He destroys Tony's beautiful home with missiles. The suit is badly damaged and Tony is presumed dead. He ends up in a small town in Tennessee with no money and no suits. Therefore, he must be clever to survive. He investigates the Mandarin using everyday tools and his own intelligence.

During his investigation, Tony makes a shocking discovery. The Mandarin is not real. He is just an actor. A man named Aldrich Killian created the character to hide his own failed experiments. Killian developed a treatment called Extremis. This treatment gives people super strength and healing, but it also makes them explode sometimes.

In the final act, Killian captures Tony's girlfriend, Pepper Potts. Tony must launch a rescue mission. He calls all of his Iron Man suits to help him. A huge battle happens on an oil tanker. Finally, Tony defeats Killian and saves Pepper. He even destroys all his suits as a sign he is moving on. In the end, he has surgery to remove the shrapnel from his heart. He throws his old arc reactor into the ocean, symbolizing a new beginning for Tony Stark, the hero.
