Storyline: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 begins with the team working as heroes for hire. They are protecting valuable batteries for a race called the Sovereign. In return, they receive a prisoner, Nebula. However, Rocket later steals the batteries they were guarding. As a result, the entire Sovereign army chases them in a massive space battle.

Suddenly, a mysterious powerful being saves them. He is named Ego, and he claims to be Peter Quill's father. Ego invites Peter, Gamora, and Drax to his beautiful planet. Meanwhile, Rocket and Baby Groot stay behind to repair the ship and guard Nebula.

On Ego's planet, Peter learns about his celestial heritage. He discovers he can naturally manipulate energy, just like his father. However, Gamora feels suspicious about Ego. She and Drax find a cave of skeletons. These are the remains of Ego's half-children from across the universe. None of them had the power he needed.

They soon learn the terrible truth. Ego is a living planet. He planted a seed on every world he visited. He now plans to use Peter's power to make everything become part of him, destroying all life in the universe.

Meanwhile, the Sovereign army finds Rocket and Groot. They capture them. Luckily, Yondu and his Ravagers arrive and save them. All of them then race to Ego's planet to help Peter.

A huge final battle begins. Peter realizes he must stop his father. He teams up with his real family: the Guardians, Nebula, and Yondu. They destroy Ego's brain from inside the planet. Yondu sacrifices himself to save Peter in space. In the end, the Guardians hold a funeral for Yondu. They truly become a family, united not by blood, but by choice.
