Storyline: Dunkirk tells the true story of a massive military evacuation during World War II. The movie follows three different stories that all happen at the same time.

First, on the beach, we follow a young British soldier. He is trapped with thousands of other men. They are surrounded by the enemy army. Therefore, they are desperately waiting for rescue ships. However, German planes constantly bomb and shoot at them.

Meanwhile, out at sea, a man named Mr. Dawson sails his small private boat across the English Channel. He is one of many civilian heroes. Consequently, he is heading directly toward the danger to help save the soldiers. Along the way, he rescues a shell-shocked soldier from the water.

At the same time, in the air, two Royal Air Force pilots fly their Spitfire planes. They bravely fight German aircraft. Their mission is to protect the soldiers on the beach and the boats below. For example, one pilot shoots down an enemy plane but then runs out of fuel.

Eventually, all three stories connect at the beach. The small civilian boats arrive to help the big navy ships. They work together to carry the soldiers to safety. In the end, the evacuation is a success. Although they lost equipment, they saved 300,000 men. Finally, the soldiers return home, welcomed as heroes for surviving against impossible odds.
