Storyline: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 begins with the team living on Knowhere. Suddenly, a powerful enemy named Adam Warlock attacks them. He is sent by the Sovereign. During the fight, Rocket Raccoon is badly hurt. The team discovers a kill switch on his heart. It prevents them from saving him. They cannot bypass the switch because of special security locks.

Therefore, the Guardians must find the access code. They decide to find Rocket's creator, a mad scientist called the High Evolutionary. Peter Quill, Gamora, Drax, and Nebula travel to the High Evolutionary's organic space station, Counter-Earth. Meanwhile, Groot and Mantis stay behind to protect Rocket and Knowhere.

The mission reveals Rocket's past through flashbacks. He was just Experiment 89P13. The High Evolutionary created him and other animals. Rocket's first friends were Lylla, Teefs, and Floor. The High Evolutionary was a cruel perfectionist. He wanted to create a perfect society. He often destroyed his creations when they disappointed him.

The Guardians finally confront the High Evolutionary on his main ship. They learn he plans to destroy Counter-Earth and start over. A massive battle begins. The Guardians free all the imprisoned animal experiments. A healed Rocket finally confronts his creator and defeats him. He embraces his identity as Rocket Raccoon, a Guardian of the Galaxy.

In the end, the team decides to split up. Peter returns to Earth to find his grandfather. Rocket becomes the new leader of the Guardians. He stays on Knowhere to protect the new society of freed creatures. The movie ends by showing each Guardian finding their own purpose, concluding their epic journey together.
